Kennel Training Made Easy

*💡 Kennel Training Made Easy*
One day, I visited a friend who owns two dogs. When I arrived, I noticed a warning sign, "Beware of Dogs." Naturally, I became cautious. My friend came to open the gate, and to my surprise, the kennel was unlocked, with two big Rottweilers inside.

I asked why the kennel was open, and he explained that he was too tired to lock it but wasn’t worried because the dogs wouldn’t leave without his command. I was amazed, He then told me to stay calm while he gave the dogs a command. Though my heart was beating fast, I stayed still.

When he said, “Come,” the dogs obediently walked to his side. A few minutes later, he said, “Go to your Cage,” and they went back without any fuss.

This experience showed me that with proper training, you can teach your dogs to behave in such an amazing way.

*💡Why is this important?*

Teaching your dog to go to its kennel (cage) is a helpful skill. It makes your dog feel safe, helps them calm down when they are too excited, and keeps them in a specific area when needed. This training is also great for managing your dog during family activities or when visitors come around.

Your dogs should not just be all over the place when you have visitors around....

*Steps to Teach Your Dog.*

Choose the Right Kennel (Cage):
Make sure the kennel is big enough for your dog to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably.
There should be enough space for the dog to feel comfortable

Make the Kennel Comfortable.

Put a soft blanket, used cartons, Newspaper or anything soft inside. You can also add one of your dog’s favorite toys to make it feel welcoming.
Make sure the kennel is interesting and attractive to your dog.

Introduce the Kennel Slowly.

Don’t force your dog into the kennel. Let them sniff it and explore it on their own. Give them a treat whenever they go near it to create positive feelings about the kennel.
It's not Everytime you use force just because you can use your leash to put them in the cage,do not let your dogs see the kennel as punishment...

It is so exciting and it's a lot of relief when you ask your dog to go to d cage and it obeys you..m

Use a Cue Word or Phrase(dogs do not understand sentences).

Decide on a simple phrase like “Go to your cage” or “Go inside.” Use this same phrase every time you want them to go to the kennel.

One thing that works for dogs is consistency and repetition. You cannot use different cues and phrases,if not you will confuse the dog.So whatever cue you are using, make sure it's consistent.

Reward Small Steps.

Start by tossing a treat inside the kennel, you need to make the kennel really attractive to them.

If your dog steps in, praise them and say, “Good boy/girl!”

Repeat this a few times to help them associate the kennel with rewards.

It is called Positive reinforcement.(We would treat positive reinforcement soon).

Practice Regularly.

Repeat these steps every day. Practice during quiet times, not when the dog is stressed or too excited.

When it comes to your furry friends, Consistency rules the world, you just must be consistent in any of your trainings and teachings so you need lots of time.

*Never use the kennel as punishment. Your dog should see it as a safe and happy place.*

*Be patient. Some dogs learn quickly, while others may take more time.*

*Always reward your dog with treats, praise, or a favorite toy when they do the right thing.*
